Overview

In this session we will dive into the topic of a growing conflict between physicians and administrators.

While more physicians are employed by healthcare systems than ever, more and more physicians are burnt out, leaving medicine completely or very unhappy with their jobs. At the same time, healthcare administrators are also experiencing high levels of burnout as hospitals are increasingly operating with negative margins and are forced to merge into ever growing heath systems in order to compete in the healthcare markets and to negotiate better insurance rates with insurance companies. The regulatory and payment framework is becoming more challenging to navigate and insurance companies are decreasing reimbursements for services or denying payments, including Medicare that every year decreases reimbursements for physician services. This is an environment rife with complexity, serious challenges, and conflict.

While both physicians and administrators 'think' they understand each others' perspectives, they don't truly take the time to create collaborations and relationships in order to tackle these challenges together. In this session we will propose ideas of how this collaboration can be improved.
