J Larry Tyler, FACHE, FHFMA, CMPE is the Founder and CEO of Practical Governance Group. Tyler spent the first part of his career as a healthcare executive search consultant where he conducted over 185 CEO searches and received a tremendous amount of experience in working with boards.
With the publication of the book, Practical Governance from Health Administration Press, he began a sub-career in governance for hospitals and medical groups. With the sale of Tyler & Company in 2015, he moved to working primarily in the governance arena.
J Larry Tyler active in governance both from writing, lecturing, and consulting. He has for 15 years taught the governance section of the American College of Healthcare Executives review course for the Board of Governor Exam. At the ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership, he has conducted the CEO Governance Roundtable for 15 years, and the Governance Forum for 6 years. He has written extensively on governance for Healthcare Executive and Frontiers magazine.
He is a board member of the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives and Bethesda Lutheran Communities where "practices what he preaches" regarding governance and board functioning. He was the Chairman of the Board of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants. Tyler also served as Regent for Georgia for the American College of Healthcare Executives
